Gilette, Wyoming to Yellowstone

We left Gilette, Wyoming and it was 89 degrees!! We saw every season on our drive to Yellowstone National Park on Saturday, June 2. The drive was GORGEOUS! And we actually drove through 2 other national parks before reaching Yellowstone. We passed through the Buffalo Bill Dam, hit rain and then headed up the mountains of Buffalo Bill State Park, where the temperature dropped down to 44 degrees! Snow was still on the mountains and the precipitation we were driving through may have been sleet. After Buffalo Bill State Park, we drove through Shoshone National Forest, named after the Shoshone, Indians. Unlike the previous forest, which was more mountainous to drive through, Shoshone "showed off" its awe-inspiring rocks! I don't have any pictures from this drive (because my phone was in surgery at the time), but I will post pictures from this drive once I find my phone cord. We were greeted in Yellowstone National Park by a bison, walking down the street right next to our car! I knew I would love Yellowstone right away, after this encounter! There was snow in Yellowstone as well. We were informed it snowed on the east part of the park forcing many of the animals, especially bison, to migrate west toward warmer weather. I guess our bison friend who was walking down the street did not set his alarm for this migration! He had a LOOONG way to go to his friends. It took us about an 1 1/2 to get through the park to Old Faithful Inn, our residence for the next two nights. The drive could not be more picturesque! There were mountains, lakes, bison, trees, deer and other life all around us! Your head was constantly turning looking for more wildlife and breathtaking views! We pulled over multiples times just to capture the beauty! Every picture and scene was more beautiful than the last! And it's challenging to capture the vastness of mountains, lakes, trees and wildlife all around you with a 3x5!
Once we arrived at Old Faithful Inn, we unpacked, had dinner at the lounge inside, complimented by Old Faithful beers and enjoyed the view of Old Faithful geyser from the front porch. Yes! We were just a short walk away from this famous geyser!
